It was obvious when I came back from my break that something was wrong seriously. The office where I worked was usually full of noise and activity but on this occasion there was shocked silence. None of my colleagues were at their desks, and everyone was crowding around the TV on the wall. We watched in disbelief as terrorists flew aircraft into the World Trade Centre, one of the iconic buildings in New York.
The events of September 11th 2001 were terrifying. They showed us how easily the security and safety we take for granted can be taken from us. From that day on our world has felt less secure and we’ve seen the cycle of conflict and terrorism that has destroyed so many more lives across the world and especially in the Middle East.
What hope is there for this shaky world?
The death of Jesus was another earth shattering tragedy for the disciples who had follower Jesus throughout his ministry. His crucifixion made no sense to his friends and left them feeling confused and afraid. But, three days later things looked very different. Jesus was alive again and his followers saw the reality of resurrection life.
This is the solid hope that our friends and family need to hear about during our Solid Hope Mission in September. Jesus gives us confidence to face life in this shaky world knowing, that if we trust him, we too will be raised from the dead for and this broken world will be remade.
